Ben has ten years' experience as a resource management policy planner, environmental economist and project manager. Ben has worked for central government and as a consultant in New Zealand, as well as for two central London boroughs. He has been involved in assessments of environmental effects, policy development, drafting and auditing resource consent applications, facilitating workshops for consultation programmes, and presenting expert planning evidence at hearings. As an environmental economist, he has also had "hands-on" experience with contingent valuation (community benefit) surveys. In one case this involved coordinating the survey and liaising with a team of scientists to develop an information pack to describe the environmental improvements that would arise from treating stormwater runoff, as well as selecting and managing the team used to administer the survey.
